TW Sick cat (he's ok now)

This entry is going to be rather short, because dwelling on it frankly makes me sad.

For a few years now, I've had a couple of really serious health scares with Kalma. Each time, the vet hasn't been able to figure out what was wrong with him, and he's survived each time by the skin of his teeth. Earlier this year he got sick again, so I took him to the emergency vet. This time, while waiting for blood and urine tests (going in because I thought he was peeing blood), Kalma decided to try to hide on the floor, underneath a table...thing, and leaked floids directly on the floor, which meant they were able to get a decently clean sample.

Turns out he wasn't peeing blood, he was pooping nothing but blood and water. His diagnosis is PLE.

They didn't think he would survive the night, but right now, he's purring up a storm on my lap, and took the long way to get there (aka walking across my shoulders before jumping down to my lap, because he's a little parrot who sits on my shoulders sometimes), so he's doing really well now. He's just like normal again, just with bald patches.

We've been back a few times, and he's still on medication (that he hates, but I've gotten pretty good at administering) and gets expensive food (though I've seen him sneak his sister's food, cheeky baby), but he's doing really well now.

Since it's chronic, this will most likely happen again. I know he's not likely to live as long a life as his sister, and I'm trying to mentally prepare myself for the day I lose him. But I will take care of him, and make sure that he has the best life a little kitty could want, and try to minimise the risk of him getting sick again.

I have another vet appointment coming up in a few weeks, hopefully his tests will come back good.

I'm gonna make sure to cherish the years I have left with him, and maybe he'll surprise me and live a long time yet.

That's, ah. That's it, for tonight. Send him lots of kisses (and some for his sister while you're at it).
