Let's Get Witchy!
In the far north of Sweden, lives a witch named Ilmarinen. He lives far from other people, but with a portal in his potato cellar he can easily transport himself to the backrooms of his little bookshop in a town in Norrland. There, aside from books he also sells various trinkets and items infused with magic. Tea is one of his most popular items, with the different properties his magic brings it.
Meet Ilmarinen and his magical friends far up in Norrland.
The first time I drew any of these characters was in 2016 (I think), and it's been a while since I drew some of them.
Ilarinen JΓ€rvi
Nicknamed Mr Witch, Ilmarinen is 168 cm tall and a spry 178 years old. He's gay and poly, though his most long-lasting relationship has been with the troll Ukko. They have been together for 13 years now.
His bookshop is a popular hub among those who believe in magic, and to people who don't he's seen as a bit of an odd character who loves to talk about books and share his (non-magic) tea and snacks with those who want to spend some time reading in his book nook.
Myka Mosse
A friendly half-forest troll half-sjΓΆrΓ₯ (lady of the lake), Myka is 25 years old and 178 cm tall. She lives right next to a swamp with her her mother and father, whom she gets along with. Thanks to the genes of her mother she has magic that can make her look fully human.
She had a complicated friends-with-benefits retaionship with Halldora, then they tried dating, but it didn't work out. They're now back to being friends, but it's still a bit awkward between them.
Jouelle
There are few people who loves insects as much as Jouelle. A mix between a werecat, faun and slime, Jouelle is 23 years old. Standing at 153 cm tall, Jouelle has no gender. Slimes can morph into anything they want, but that is not a trait Jouelle has yet to fully master. It's a work in progress.
Jouelle prefers to be alone, but can sometimes be found in the bookshop after-hours, when Ilmarinen keeps special hours only known by those in the more magical realm.
Midnatt
Most of the time a tiny creature, Midnatt can only shapeshif in size and minor physical attributes. His favourite height is 10-25 cm, perfect to tuck into hidden nooks and dark crannies. He often sneaks into Ilmarinen's shop to steal snacks, and Ilmarinen doesn't mind. Midnatt does short work of any mice or rats that dare make their way inside. And bugs, much to Jouelle's displeasure.
Midnatt is a creature of the night, quite literally. His body is dark like the sky, clouds of it coming off his body outside his control. Twinkling stars glimmer around and inside his bery being.
Ukko
A mountain troll of fairly tall stature, Ukko stands at 236 cm tall. At 325 years old, Ukko sometimes come down his mountain, that he lives inside of with a group of other trolls.
He's been together with Ilmarinen for 13 years, and quite enjoys making friendships with any potential partners Ilmarinen has at different times. He doesn't come by the bookshop very often, but when he does he visits trough Ilmarinen's potato cellar.
Halldora
When you have floating hands, there are no shelf too high to get thing down from. Even without that though, Halldora has an easy time reaching most things, as her half-human half-giant stature had her grow to a height of 201 cm. Small for a giant, tall for a human. She lives in the city, thanks to the glamours sold by Ilmarinen in his shop helping her keep a human disguise whenever she feels like it.
Her relationship with Myka has had a lot of twists and turns, but they're trying to get comfortable in their friendship again.
Engla Amira Basra
If you were to ask Engla her age, you might get two different answers. Is she 24 or is she 40? Being undead makes the answer less simple than for most. At 159 cm tall, Engla is half-angel/half-faun, one of her parents being all eyes, circles and wings, her mother more fur and hooves. Aside from her ears and halo, she looked mostly human before being brought back from the dead.
Her angelic parent didn't anticipate that bringing her back wouldn't be as straightforward as if you were wholly a deity, her body becoming more and more of a patchwork as time moves forward..
KΓ€rleksfΓ€
Coming in all the colours of the rainbow, lovebugs are little creatures that can grow as long as 40 cm from the tip of the tail to the antenna on the crown of their heands.
Able to grow as old as 200 years old, the slime they produce can work as a type of aphrodisiac that Ilmarinen uses in some of his edible wares. Make no mistake however, their secretion makes no love potion, no matter the myths.
